    Welcome to the course of Community Based Support Strategies for Inclusive Education, the code of this module is SNE2243, the facilitator is Mr. Nshimiyimana J. Bosco, your participation is highly appreciated.

    2. The Module's aim 

    The aim of this module is to enable students to gain an understanding of support services within the community and how best they can be used to support the schools as a means of including learners with SEN. It discusses community based rehabilitation as an approach for habilitation, rehabilitation, mobility and orientation of learners with special needs and disabilities.

     3. Module learning outcomes

    Having successfully completed the module, students should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

     

    1. Terms and concepts used in rehabilitation, habilitation, rehabilitation, mobility and orientation etc..
    2. Various models of rehabilitation, habilitation, mobility and orientation etc..
    3. Goals and principles of rehabilitation, rehabilitation, mobility and orientation etc.
    4.  The organisational structure and service delivery systems used in community-based support services

    Community Based Rehabilitation and Inclusive Education

    Intended Learning outcomes 

    • By the end of this unit, students should be able to:

      Explain what is disability and different modes of disability

      Explain basic concepts and principles of CBR 

      Discuss the importance of CBR principles on people with disabilities

      -Task: 

      1. Discuss the meaning of disability, its modes and summarize its evolution

      2. Write on flash card/notebook the meaning of CBR concepts. Post it on the wall for others to read. Explain and discover the similarities and differences between terms. e-tivity 1.2

      Share your understanding on CBR and come up with a shared definition

  • Introduction

    This unit introduces students to different components used in community based rehabilitation. It invites facilitator to discuss further on CBR matrix components and their elements

    Intended learning outcomes

    By the end of this unit, students should be able to:

    Explain all CBR matrix components and their relevance on life and education of people with disabilities.

    Explain the relationship of the education components and other components

    Explain how multisectorial collaboration can be a good approach to adopt in CBR activities.

    Learning activities

    -Purpose: To achieve learning outcome number 2 e-tivity 2

    -Task: 

    1. Write on flash card/notebook the meaning of CBR concepts. Post it on the wall for others to read. Explain and discover the similarities and differences between terms. E-tivity 2.1

    2. From your experience, how would you define CBR matrix?

    Share your understanding on the importance of CBR matrix components and come up with a shared explanation to your colleagues. E-tivity 2.2

    3. List CBR stake holders and discuss why all of should be involved in CBR activities. E-tivity 2.3

     

  • Introduction:

    This unit introduces discusses in detail the education component in CBR programme. It invites facilitator to discuss on how people with disabilities can be supported in different levels of education.

    Intended Learning outcomes 

    By the end of this unit, students should be able to:

    Understand how each element is important in education of people with disabilities.

     Discuss different activities CBR can do for people with disabilities on each level education. 

    Understand CBR goals in each element of education component.

    Understand how CBR can help in facilitating education of people with disabilities.

    Learning activities 

    Purpose: To achieve learning outcome number 3 e-tivity 3

    Task: 

    1. Write  on your notebooks the elements of education component and summarize the activities CBR can do on each element.

     Post it on the wall for others to read. Explain and discover new ideas from your colleagues. E-tivity 3.1  

    2. From your experience, how would you explain the over role of CBR in education?

    Share your understanding on the importance education components on people with disabilities and come up with a shared explanation to your colleagues. E-tivity 3.2

    3. List CBR principles of non-formal education and discuss why these principles are important. E-tivity 2.3

     

  • Introduction:

    This unit discusses ways of entering in the community, community organization and their importance and it ends by discussing on the organizations of people with disabilities 

    Intended learning outcome 

    By the end of this session, you should be able to:

    Explain factors and steps to consider while entering the community.

    Explain barriers to entering the community and the importance of knowing them.

    Explain how community organization can contribute to the development of people with disabilities living in that community.

    Understand and explain the importance of organization of people with disabilities.

    -Task: 

    1. Write on your notebooks factors and steps to consider while entering the community and briefly explain why it is important to follow them? E-tivity 4.1

     2. List barriers to entering the community and briefly explain how they can overcomed? E-tivity 4.2  

    3. From your experience, how community organization can be one of good strategies to support people with disabilities? E-tivity 4.3

    4. Share your understanding on the importance of organizations of people with disabilities?. E-tivity 4.4

     

  • Introduction:

    This unit introduces students to the overview of management in CBR and important parts to consider while implement CBR programme

    Learning outcomes:

    By the end of this topic, you should be able to:

    Explain CBR management structure.

    Explain why monitoring and evaluation activities are very crucial in CBR program.

    Explain the role and responsibilities of the CBR committees in management of CBR programme.

    -Task: 

    1.  Discuss the importance CBR management structure? E-tivity 5.1

     2. From your experience, how would you explain the importance of monitoring and evaluation while implementing CBR programme? E-tivity 5.2

  • Introduction:

    This unit introduces students to career opportunities of people with disabilities and CBR activities to be done in CBR to help in skills development of people with disabilities. 

    Learning outcomes:

    By the end of this unit each student should be able to:

    Explain career opportunities for people with disabilities

    Explain the activities to be done in CBR for skills development of PWDs

    Discuss different skills needed by PWDs to compete with others on work market

    -Task: 

    1. Write on your notebooks and post on the forum the career opportunities for people with disabilities? E-tivity 6.1

     2. List barriers to entering the community and briefly explain how they can overcomed? E-tivity 6.1  

    3. From your experience, discuss the activities which can help people with disabilities to develop their skills? E-tivity 6.2

    4. Discuss different ways which can support people with disabilities to compete on work market and post it on the discussion forum? E-tivity 6.3
