In this unit(Unit 2), I understood that grid computing is a way of connecting many distributed, heterogeneous resources (computers, storage, networks, and special equipment) so they can work together as a single powerful virtual system. It focuses on sharing and coordinating resources across different organizations, which makes it possible to solve large and complex problems that a single machine cannot handle efficiently. I learned about key resource types such as computation, storage, communication networks, software licenses, and special hardware, and how they are advertised and discovered in a grid environment. I also understood the concepts of jobs and applications, where user tasks are broken down, submitted to the grid, and then scheduled to the most appropriate resources using mechanisms like reservation and scavenging of idle machines. Finally, I realized the importance of grid software components and the distinction between intragrid (within one organization) and intergrid (across multiple organizations), which showed me how grids can scale while still respecting different policies and administrative domains.
