In Unit 2, I understood that grid computing is built on different types of resources, such as computation, storage, communication networks, software licenses, and even special equipment with specific policies and capacities. I realized that these heterogeneous resources are shared across organizations and are coordinated so that jobs and applications can be executed more efficiently than on a single machine.
I also learned how jobs are submitted, managed, and scheduled, and how mechanisms like reservation and scavenging help use idle resources without affecting local users too much. This changed my view of distributed systems, because I now see that successful grid computing is not only about powerful hardware but also about good scheduling, clear resource policies, and suitable grid software components that connect intragrids and intergrids.
