Unit 2 introduces the essential terminologies and concepts used in grid computing, focusing on the different types of resources and how they interact in a grid environment. It explains key resource categories such as computation, storage, communications, software and licenses and special equipment or capacities, and shows how these are organized and managed within a grid. The unit also covers jobs and applications, including how user tasks are submitted and handled, and the role of scheduling, reservation, and scavenging in allocating resources efficiently. Finally it presents core grid software components and the ideas of intragrid and intergrid, helping us understand how separate grid systems operate internally and interconnect with each other to support realistic case studies and simple power system scenario,
