Module Description 

GIS (Geographic Information System): is computer assisted system with for collecting, storing, retrieving at will, transforming and displaying spatial data from the real world for a particular set of purpose. It is an organized collection of computer hardware, software, geographical data, personal designed to efficiently capture, store, update, manipulate, analyze and display all form of geographically referenced information. 

Learning Outcomes

 Having successfully completed the module, students should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

  • Topographical survey of land
  • Preparation of contour maps and profiles of road, drain/channels
  • Principles and applications of Geographical Information system and remote sensing.
  • To define and illustrate the basic concepts of participatory approaches from both theoretical and practical perspectives.
  • Articulate how participatory methods can elicit peoples’ knowledge and expertise.
  • Describe how participatory methods build local capacity for effective problem solving and action.
