1       Brief description of aims and content

 

On the completion of the bachelor degree with honours, the candidate will accomplish 10 weeks clerkship in hospital. The aim is to develop professional skills through a series of patient-orientated practice.

Knowledge and Understanding

Having successfully completed the module, students should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

  1. 1.      Practice of Clinical Pharmacy;
  2. 2.      Practice in medical Labs
Cognitive/Intellectual skills/Application of Knowledge

Having successfully completed the module, students should be able to:

  1. 3.      Integrate theories and practical skills acquired previously to the application of the pharmaceutical care and pharmacy practice in day-to-day business;
    1. 4.      Manage and administer a pharmacy and pharmacy practice;
    2. 5.      Manage various systems for preparation, storage and dispensing of medicines;
    3. 6.      Offer patient counseling and education about the safe and effective use of medicines;
    4. 7.      Interpret the information provided on the prescription and satisfy the legal requirements for the prescription and prescription label.
    5. 8.      Assess the appropriateness of the prescribed therapy, including the choice of drug, the dose of the drug, the dose frequency and the duration of therapy with respect to the specific patient for which the therapy is prescribed.
    6. 9.      Resolve real or potential problems in the prescribed therapy.
    7. 10.  Know specific information about the medication to be dispensed, including: the drug name (brand and generic name or common chemical name and synonyms), therapeutic use and/or pharmaceutical use (specific to the prescription and in general), contraindications and precautions, common side effects, usual dosage, physicochemical properties (appearance, solubility, light sensitivity, incompatibilities, and stability under usual storage conditions of temperature and humidity) and how to take or use the product.
