GEO1242: General Physical Geography (DTP)
Semester 1

This module is composed of Blocks which include Geology, Geomorphology, Soil Sciences and Climatology.

The first Block introduces geologic skills which will help to understand the celestial forces which govern the location in the universe of the earth and our galaxy, the Milky Way. These celestial forces have an important impact on the state and evolution of our planet. This unit helps to understand the structure and composition of the earth, the nature of the minerals and rock materials that make up it.

The second Block is related to geomorphologic skills focused on the forces which govern the production of the landforms. It deals also with the processes that shape the earth’s surface characterized by various landscapes.

The Block three deals with superficial layer of the earth called soil. It helps to understand the formation and development and characteristics of soils at earth’s surface.

The last Block deals with climatology. This block helps to understand different elements of the weather/climate, the reasons for their variations, their effects on natural environment, and the processes that produce different climates.
