Numerical Analysis for Environmental Sciences (GIS Component)
Postgraduate

This module aims at equipping the students with the concepts and functions of GIS and database for capturing, managing, processing, analysing and displaying spatial data in relation to the spatial management and/or solving the real life problems.

This module introduces the students to the fundamentals of GIS, with focus on its basic principles and applications, including spatial data sources and management techniques, spatial data modelling, database development, and spatial analysis and presentation.

The  intended learning outcomes are the following:

1. Describe the principles, functions and applications of GIS

2. Differentiate spatial data model types (vector and raster)

3. Describe the methods of spatial referencing

4. Describe and apply GIS data sources methods

5. Describe the GIS analysis functions and apply them on various geo-datasets

6. Acquire basic theoretical  and practical skills of map design using ArcMap
