Parasitology II is an undergraduate course for Student of Biomedical Laboratory Sciences after taking Parasitology I (Medical Helimentology). It focuses on Medical Protozoology—the study of medically important protozoan parasites. The course provides a comprehensive overview of the classification, morphology, life cycles, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, laboratory diagnosis, treatment, and control of major protozoan pathogens. Students will explore host-parasite interactions, immunological responses, and the various modes of transmission. A significant emphasis is placed on practical diagnostic methods, including specimen collection, microscopy, concentration techniques, and permanent staining procedures. The course covers major groups including Amoebae, Flagellates, Ciliates, and Apicomplexans (including Plasmodium and Toxoplasma), highlighting their impact on global public health.
The overall purpose of this module is to help students understand the biology, geographic distribution, life cycle, epidemiology, control and diagnosis of protozoa of public health importance.
