NUS6154: Nursing Knowledge: Concepts, Theories and Practice
Semester 1

This foundation module explores knowledge development in nursing, analyzes selected nursing theories and related concepts, and examines the relevance of theory to research, practice, and education in the field of nursing. It is designed to deepen learners’ understanding of the nature of knowledge in general and of nursing knowledge in particular.  Various strategies of concept and theory development and appraisal are presented.  Critical thinking and scholarship are addressed through class participation and written work, which requires synthesis of the assigned readings and literature. Therapeutic nursing interventions are indirectly applied through depiction of use of the nursing models in nursing practice, education, research, and administration. Communication is employed via discussions amongst all students and the instructor, written, oral and electronic media.
