GNU7153: Professional,Ethical and Legal Aspects of Nursing
Semester 1

This module is designed to prepare student nurses to work professionally obeying the rules of good conduct and the legal framework guiding the nursing profession. It introduces the student to the profession of nursing and how to deal with different nursing situations in an ethical manner and within the limits of the law. It will also cover interprofessional collaboration to characterize the profession when providing nursing care to individuals, families, groups, and communities.

Aim of module 

This module aims at providing knowledge concerning the history of the nursing profession, skills to deal with different nursing issues, and communication skills needed during care provision.

Learning outcomes of this module

1. Identify ethical theories and principles related to ethical decision making

2. Practice within the ethical and legal framework of the nursing profession and apply the principles of a therapeutic relationship in interaction with clients.

3. Apply therapeutic and non-therapeutic communication techniques in the interactions with clients with respect to rules and regulations in nursing practice. 

4.  Demonstrate professional values when providing health care and apply the nursing ethics, values, and professional code of conduct.
