Section outline

Introduction

Qualitative research shares some similarities with quantitave research. However, qualitative research has unique procedures, techniques and outcomes that make its methods different from quantitative research. This session covers important topics that will respond to the following questions: What is qualitative research? Who is involved in qualitative reseach? What are qualitative reseach characteristics? What are differences between quantitative and qualitative research approaches?

Moreover, this session details how to design qualitative research, sampling techniques and ethical considerations for qualitative research.

LEARNING OUTCOMES FOR THE SESSION

By the end of this session, you should be able to:

Determine concepts used in qualitative research

Compare qualitative and quantitative research

Design a qualitative study

Apply appropriate sampling techniques for qualitative research

Reflect ethics principles for qualitative research
