  • This session will discuss purchasing of health services. In the context of UHC and the SDG, it is critical for countries to move from passive to strategic purchasing in order to achieve efficiency and quality of health services.

    Learning outcomes: At the end of this session, students will be able to:

    1. Explain what is purchasing of health services: “Who are the purchasers?”, “What do we purchase?”, “From whom do we purchase?” and “How do we purchase?”.
    2. Understand the rationale for purchasing more strategically
    3. Describe purchasing or payment methods, their advantages and disadvantages.

    2. Forum discussion: Watch the you tube video (see link provided below) and participate in the discussion forum. Ask questions, answer to your classmates' questions and comment.
