Introduction

Assessment is the most high-stakes element of the learning experience. When assessment design excludes or disadvantages learners, through inaccessible formats, culturally biased tasks, inflexible conditions, or inadequate feedback, it can negate all the inclusive design effort invested elsewhere in a course. Conversely, well-designed inclusive assessment communicates to learners that the institution believes in their capacity to succeed and is committed to demonstrating that equitably.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this unit, you will be able to:

LO1	Explain the principles of inclusive assessment design and identify how traditional assessment practices can disadvantage diverse and disabled learners in online environments.
LO2	Design inclusive assessment tasks that offer flexible formats for demonstrating learning outcomes, applying UDL principles and reasonable adjustment frameworks.
LO3	Develop accessible assessment instruments, including rubrics, instructions, and submission interfaces, that are clear, equitable, and navigable by all learners.
LO4	Apply appropriate e-feedback strategies and digital tools to provide timely, accessible, and actionable feedback that supports all learners' development.
