The module GE90142: Academic Writing and Scientific Communication introduces students to the essential skills required for preparing academic manuscripts and delivering scientific presentations. It covers key components of scholarly writing, including manuscript types, structure, quality standards, journal selection, publication processes, and ethical considerations in academic publishing.
The module also strengthens students’ research competencies by guiding them through research question formulation, literature review, research design, methodological approaches, and data analysis using software such as SPSS and NVivo. Through practical exercises, students develop the ability to produce high-quality manuscripts and communicate research findings effectively for publication and scientific dissemination
The module GE90142: Assessment, Measurement and Evaluation in Education equips students with essential knowledge and skills for designing, administering, and interpreting educational assessments. It introduces key concepts such as measurement, assessment, and evaluation, as well as the domains of instructional objectives and principles of test construction.
The module also focuses on developing quality assessment tools, including test specifications, and emphasizes the characteristics of valid and reliable tests. Students are trained in managing test data, analysing results, interpreting assessment outcomes, and using evidence for data-driven decision-making in educational contexts.
Through practical activities, students gain hands-on experience in preparing and administering assessments, as well as analysing and interpreting test results to improve teaching and learning processes.
The module GE90142: Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability provides students with a comprehensive understanding of climate change concepts, including its causes, impacts, and linkages to environmental degradation. It explores key issues such as adaptation and mitigation strategies, climate justice and equity, climate and environmental finance, as well as international protocols and conventions guiding global climate action.
The module also introduces students to basic climate modelling approaches used to analyse and project environmental changes. Through practical work, students assess Rwanda’s climate commitments, analyse the impacts of climate change, conduct statistical analysis of climatic data, and develop projections of future climate scenarios to support evidence-based mitigation and adaptation planning.
