Course image Global patterns of Health and Illnesses
Semester 1

Welcome to the module

This module introduces you to Global Health (GH) with emphasis on the determinants of health and illnesses while reflecting on the global burden of diseases and variations by countries. Conditions that enhance health, as well as factors that contribute to health and illnesses as such give basis for health and diseases patterns within the epidemiological framework,  are explored. Attributes such as evidence-based policy implementation, gender equity, and access to healthcare, health literacy, health disparities, healthcare disparities, and community health collaboration will be explored. Actions at local, national and international levels for health promotion, disease prevention, and interventions targeted at the burden of the disease will also be explored. In addition, the role of the nurse in global health and actions in the areas of policy, programs, and services in managing the burden of diseases will be explored.  Nurses’ actions in addressing challenges such as poor sanitation, malnutrition, poverty and other risk factors at various levels will be emphasized.

Course image NUS6154: Nursing Knowledge: Concepts, Theories and Practice
Semester 1

This foundation module explores knowledge development in nursing, analyzes selected nursing theories and related concepts, and examines the relevance of theory to research, practice, and education in the field of nursing. It is designed to deepen learners’ understanding of the nature of knowledge in general and of nursing knowledge in particular.  Various strategies of concept and theory development and appraisal are presented.  Critical thinking and scholarship are addressed through class participation and written work, which requires synthesis of the assigned readings and literature. Therapeutic nursing interventions are indirectly applied through depiction of use of the nursing models in nursing practice, education, research, and administration. Communication is employed via discussions amongst all students and the instructor, written, oral and electronic media. 

Course image Strengthening Nursing and Healthcare
Semester 1

The purpose of this module is to provide students with an in-depth understanding of advanced nursing practice leadership in the effort of strengthening nursing leadership capacity for Rwanda. Healthcare delivery systems, the role of the nurse leader, standards and regulations, inter-professional collaboration, and continuous self-evaluation to achieve the desired national vision of a healthy population for Rwanda.
