COMMON OCULAR DISORRRDERS
Semester 2

Aims of the module: 

This module aims to equip the student with pathogenesis, signs and symptoms, methods of examination and management of common conditions affecting the posterior structures and visual pathway of the eye as well as the coverage of management and treatment strategies reflecting current and future ophthalmic practice.

Learning outcomes:

1.      Knowledge and understanding:

1.1 Describe the Pathologies of the posterior segment and visual pathway of the eye

1.2 Explain the components of a medical prescription

1.3 Recognize vascular, neoplastic, immunological diseases of the posterior segment andvisual pathway of the eye and their management

1.4 Describe frequently encountered eye conditions involving:

·       Posterior uvea

·       Vitreous disorders

·       Optic nerve anomalies

·       Macular disorders

·       Vascular disease of the retina

·       Malignancies of the posterior segment

1.5 Describe drugs used in the treatment of posterior segment eye diseases

1.6 Principles of posterior segment examination including theoretical knowledge of the use of lenses in posterior segment examination
