This module gives learners further insights/notions of various aspects of English Language. It aims at equipping students with analytic skills to allow them understand the structure and constituents of the English language.
All human beings in the world communicate ideas, feelings, emotions, desires, etc. They communicate through language. Every one speaks at least one language which is his/her first language. The knowledge we have (as human beings) of language exists in our minds in the form of rules which constitute the grammar of a particular language.
In this module, we are going to focus on three main areas. The first block will deal with a general introduction to language and linguistics. The second block will focus on the grammar, in this case, of the English language. The third block will concentrate on phonetics and phonology.

Welcome to this module that introduces you to relevance of teaching languages across the curriculum. Through this module, you will get an overview of language teaching approaches/methods, and be able to make a choice of an appropriate teaching approach based on the teaching/learning context. You will be refreshed on methodological documents and how to plan scheme of works and lesson plans. The module will also bring about elicitation techniques, aspects to teach in language and how each of them can be tackled, etc.
In this module, you will learn specific teaching methods of Chemistry and Biology. In order to develop a good understanding of science, an adequate understanding of nature of science and the processes of science is needed. In block 1 of this module, you will learn the nature of science, misconceptions and improvisation in science teaching. Science is dynamic as a body of knowledge, as a method of inquiry and as an attitude towards life. You will also study the aims and objectives of science teaching in schools; science and chemistry biology curriculum reforms; strategies and methods of science teaching and the implications of psychological theories in science teaching.
